Poor Man WIFI

Files under Networking, WIFI | Posted by calvyn

After get know the Wifi Signal Booster (DIY), u have the idea how to boost up your wifi signal… On the other hand, the signal receiver also very important.

Most of the laptop now a days already equipt with internal WIFI receiver, for this internal WIFI, i am still looking how to enhance the receiver. At the mean time, i found a PoorManWifi tutorial while i am googling on the DIY Wifi Booster.

  1. Get a checp Wifi USB adapter, if you have budget, get a better quality will be add advantage
  2. Get a parabolic cookware or any similar kind of bowl shape, and adding some hand made DIY
  3. Done, you will get some thing like mini satelite or so call “mini astro”, point to the direction of the Wifi signal comming from, or outside your house if the signal comming from your next door.

This picture shows that the result of the signal has been increase. probably you can try it out on your home

These kind of diy antennas Do work , I have built 2 kinds , dish type - multi directional and tube -type , uni- directional ( made out of dryer exhaust pipes coffee can lid ).
    Have had a 8-10 db gain . with the Uni-directional . 5-8db gain ( but more networks detected ) with the uni-directional

  16. By Brian on Aug 18, 2007 | Reply

EDIT :5-8db gain ( but more networks detected ) with the **uni**-directional
** Should have been Multi -directional

Jon, don’t correct other people’s grammar if you are going to use the wrong form of “you’re” doing so. You were looking for “your” not “you’re”. Thank you.

Very itneresting article. Wonder what could different size of “dishes” and placement of the adapter can do.

LOL. Jon, seems like the only language you speak is english and you don’t know it too well. What are you going to do now? Well replied both Jim and icalvyn!

  23. By calvyn on Aug 21, 2007 | Reply

Jim > yeah, you found JIM mistake…

antonio > i think jon will only keep quite, and dun dare to speak anymore… :D

  24. By Zero on Aug 22, 2007 | Reply

    Yes it works.
Using someone else’s wireless signal isn’t very nice; so you should talk with them first and ask =)

  25. By Nicholas on Aug 23, 2007 | Reply

i think it will works, last time i tried the alternative method which is using a parabolic shape thingy and wrap aluminium foil on it, then i place my wifi adapater in the center and shoot out of my window, a gain of access point and be seen on my monitor. but sadly, most of it are WEP. i guess when this year end holiday, i think i am going to buy this chinese cookware and a new wifi adapter to try with. mine is not those usb stick adapter but is a big one then place on the desk.

  26. By calvyn on Aug 23, 2007 | Reply

Nic, i am looking for WIFI HACK, soon WPA and WEP is will not against me…
